Project Overview

A major automotive OEM was facing significant bottlenecks in their prototyping workflow. The complex internal cooling channels of their new engine block designs required meticulous and time-consuming inspection using traditional probes and gauges. Approach

Our team collaborated with the client to integrate the Pearl-700 Desktop 3D Scanner into their prototyping lab. The scanner was used to quickly digitize the entire engine block, capturing every intricate detail of the internal channels and external surfaces in a single, high-resolution scan. The resulting data was then processed by our Spec.Check software, which performed an automated dimensional analysis. This enabled the OEM’s engineering team to instantly compare the physical prototype against the original CAD model, identifying any deviations in real-time.

Outcome

By implementing CGI Inspection’s solution, the client successfully reduced their engine block inspection time by 70%. This significant gain in efficiency allowed them to accelerate their prototyping phase, rapidly iterate on designs, and get new vehicles to market faster.
